Hello:
Break open (shotgun style) designs that have a breechplug in the aft end and a nipple have contributed to some nasty accidents when closed on a "high" cap.
H&R and other makers had several forms of these, some with and some WITHOUT threaded breechplugs!
Close them very carefully and NEVER open them right after closing. In one instance, in front of three companions, a hang-fire and quick opening of the breech for inspection put the breech plug squarely between the eyes of a hunter in south Florida years ago. I had to explain the hole to the medical examiner.

Kevin Tinny
H&R made some great guns over the years; the Huntsman wasn't one of them. I agree with Kevin, get the Buffalo Hunter.
WTB: Navy Arms A. Zoli Zouave Buffalo Hunter
Title says it all. Thanks for the recommendations and the Hawkins repro looks very interesting and a decent price but looking for this specific firearm for several reasons, mostly want, not need.
Check out Gunbroker, search number 669792739. Opening bid $449, 13 hours to go.
chorizo, it's working now and was working this morning...?
.
I finally got one for a decent price....It is a "custom" cut down version of the Navy Arms A. Zoli Zouave, 1971 manufacture. They retained the two barrel bands and the metal ramrod and the barrel is cut down to 25" (one inch shorter than the Buffalo Hunter).
I think I will be happy with what I got.
