    The 1835 & 1840 designation is one in the same. It is also quite often known as the Model 1835/40, which is an early collector designation only, as the Federal Gov't properly called it the "Model 1840 Musket." The Model 1816 lock is quite a bit different. The Model 1842 lock is a derivative of the Model 1840, but also different.

    So the 35/40 are the same, and it is different from the 16. Good info.

    My understanding is that the furniture of the 1840 is identical to the 1842, as the 42 was derived from the 40.

    I'm trying to figure out how to do an 1840 H&P Conversion utilizing existing repro 16, 40, or 42 hardware.
