    Reclaimed Lead Shot

I will have about 500 pounds of reclaimed soft lead shot (#10 size) available for sale at Nationals. This is swept up and the trash sifted out from a long-time shooting match ("turkey shoot") facility and is the easiest to transport, melt, and even mix of any lead you will ever see... measures by the cupful like water. $1.50 a pound while it lasts! PM me in advance or take a chance on some being left at 1st Valley Rangers campsite.

    Warning

I once had an opportunity to buy a skid full of lead shot in bags from a junk dealer. Upon looking at the skid the bags had a statement on them. "Warning, contains arsenic. Do not melt."
When in doubt, mumble, when in trouble, delegate.

Lot of lead shot has sevrra different types on coating to keep it from oxidation and clumping.

That said our shotgun range sells it but states for reloading shot shells only.
Been a few year that I got it. But last info was that still holds.

It doesn't get any easier then lead shot! Heck with 5, 10, 25 or 65 pigs and having to spend the time and propane melting it into ingots! #10 shot pours like water from your container into your pot. My experience is this reclaimed shot has less then 1% dust/trash in it and you save all that time from melting into ingots.

The last time I tried using lead shot, it turned out to be about BHN 7 or so.

A lot of the shot runs 6% antimony. That is how it holds its shape.

Cant find anything about #10 shot.

Most is 7.5 8 and 9 on our fields.

Number 10, 11 & 12 shot has been used at turkey's shoots forever with #10 being the most popular. I've picked it up reclaimed from several "underground" shoots where big betting was the norm and no one cared about a ham. It has ways tested out 5.5-6 for soft lead. It can still be ordered online from a few place and it's listed as pure lead chilled shot.

    lead shot

if you are melting lead shot you must do it outdoors as it does have arsenic and the fumes can make you sick. I have been making lead shot for several years and it will not run if you use pure lead, if you do use soft lead the shot tends to tear drop. I use 8 to 10% antimony tin or mono type to harden it

I'll have a sample at the CV Sat & Sun if you would like to buy a few pounds to try.

From what I've been able to discover, metallic arsenic in alloy does not present a vapor danger at the temps we melt alloys. Of course the usual hand washing, etc precautions apply. That being said, apparently (per RaiderANV) there is little if any arsenic in this anyway.

I delivered 500# to the fort Sunday and the recipient seemed completely satisfied, but the question now is whether I should bring up a quantity to Nationals in two weeks. I'm pulling my camper and a few extra hundred pounds of lead will make a difference to my little Honda CRV, so I'd rather not haul it just to teach it to ride in the back. Is there any interest or should I leave it home and use it myself?

Let me know by response to this thread or by PM if you are interested.
