    Original Bayonet???

Is there a way to tell if this bayonet is original? I bought it at an auction sale here locally. I can see no markings on it anywhere. Can anyone tell me what it's worth?

How much did you pick it up for . Rockey's in Weyers Cave might give a fair price to you.

    Bayonet???

I paid enough for it. I'll get my money back, original or not.

I don't care for Rocky. I will not deal with him.

    First off - I'm not an expert, but I believe it's for a 45-70.

Ive listed the same thing on the BB with photos, feel free to look it up if interested. Mine comes with the corresponding leather frog with US rosette and brass hook to attach to the rifleman's belt.

S&S has same item for sale on his webpage.

As for stamping/markings, if a true original, it should have a "US" on the top of blade, above the bend in the bayonet. My thread's photos clearly show what I'm attempting to describe...

Hope this helps, feel free to shoot me a PM if desired.

Most people that aren't from this area think Rocky is great. I'm glad to know his rep has spread a little. I went to school with his son and daughter. They not any different.

    Thanks Rob for the info.

    Hallo!

What is the inner diameter of the socket?

It looks like a M1855 missing its locking ring, but the M1873 looks similar but with a smaller socket for the .45 barrel down from the .58.

If the metal scabbard is the bayonet's, it is a M1873 Trapdoor bayonet as the M1855 scabbards were still leather.

Thanks Curt. I tend to believe it is the M1873 Trapdoor bayonet as there is no way it would fit on a .58 barrel and the scabbard is metal.

There are no stampings on either piece.
